Introduction to VeriPHY Cable Diagnostic

VeriPHY Cable Diagnostic is a function of VigorSwitch that helps the network administrator to monitor the physical status of the cable.

 

What is Pair A, B, C, and D?
 
The pair is the twisted pair of Ethernet cable, and each pair corresponds to a set of pins.
 
Pair Pins Function
A 1 and 2 This pair controls whether or not the port should go up or down
B 3 and 6 Protocol-level and controls FastEthernet
C 4 and 5 Power over Ethernet (PoE)
D 7 and 8 GigabitEthernet
 
 
 

 

 
Depends on the status of each line pair, there are different meaning of length.
 
 
Status Description Meaning of Lenght
OK  Good cable, good pair The length of the cable (Note that the lenght is only accurate for cables of length 7m to 140m)
Open An opening is detected on the cable The position of the opening 
Abnormal The impedance is not within the expected bounds, either too high or too low The position of the abnormal impedance
Short A short is detected on the cable. cable length is shorter than 7m The position of the short
Cross Abnormal cross-pait coupling in pair The position of the cross-pair coupling
